A couple of months ago we announced that 4ward-design had been awarded the contract to join the professional team tasked with creating the new Red Bull headquarters in Cape Town. The pitching process was highly competitive, and we were absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in the creation of such a cutting-edge, dynamic work environment.
Since the announcement, we’ve been working our 4ward-design magic on site, and are pleased to report that the installation has gone smoothly. The results are just as spectacular as we had hoped, with the latest technology and best-of-breed equipment combining to create a high-impact, high-energy experience.
Here’s a brief run-down of our final design and specifications:
Boardrooms and Meeting Rooms
Audio Visual Setup:
Designed mainly for presentations, this boardroom needed exceptional audio-visual quality. To achieve this, we installed an InFocus IN3128HD data and video projector and a 3m wide projection screen. Media is run through a Denon AVR -X1000 receiver amplifier, feeding a 5.1 audio system comprised of Monitor in-ceiling speakers and a Velodyne subwoofer. HD switching and scaling is handled by Extron.
To enable easy and wireless media sharing we fitted a Barco ClickShare meeting room solution. This game-changing collaboration system allows meeting participants to share media at the click of a button, either via a USB dongle, or the ClickShare app for mobile devices.
Video Conferencing Overflow:
The 20-seater boardroom has the ability to screen the video conferencing feed from the 12-seater boardroom, serving as an overflow when there are announcements or presentations that need to be viewed by more than 12 people.
The entire boardroom setup is controlled via a Crestron 3 Series Processor, with a dedicated iPad serving as the control interface.
Serving as the main video conferencing room, the 12-seater boardroom has a state-of-the-art Polycom HDX7000 video conferencing unit. Two 60-inch Samsung LED screens display the local and remote video feeds as well as any shared data.
This boardroom also uses a Barco ClickShare meeting room solution for easy, wireless media sharing and collaboration.
The boardroom systems are controlled via a Crestron 3 Series Processor, accessed via a dedicated iPad interface.
2x 6-Seater Meeting Rooms
These general-purpose meeting rooms are both fitted with a 46-inch wall-mounted Samsung LED screen. Connectivity is via a table-mounted Kramer TBus enclosure with an HDMI connector.
Meeting Room Scheduling System
Outside each meeting and boardroom we have installed an Evoko Room Manager, with an 8-inch touch-sensitive screen that displays scheduled meetings and allows users to reserve the room. The system interfaces with Microsoft Exchange, and can be accessed locally on the touch interface or remotely from a PC.
8x Managers’ Offices
Each Manager’s Office is fitted with a wall-mounted Samsung HD LED screen, with an Extron HD wall-mounted patch panel for connectivity.
Reception & General Areas
Audio distribution throughout the office space is handled by an Apart Mask MA200 Mixing Amplifier, with 7 independent volume controls allowing customisable volume levels in various areas. The sound is run through a total of 22 Apart Mask Speakers, surface mounted to the cable trays in keeping with the office’s industrial aesthetic.
There are a total of 12 screens throughout the general areas of the Red Bull office, all between 46 and 60-inch Samsung HD LEDs. They are capable of displaying a variety of HD inputs including DSTV, the Red Bull Channel on Apple TV, and feeds from a dedicated media PC. This PC is capable of distributing split-screen embedded feeds showing the Red Bull Twitter feed, DSTV channels, Apple TV and real-time sales info.
Staff Recreational Areas
Well known for their association with Formula1, it came as no surprise that Red Bull wanted an F1 gaming station in their workplace. The themed space features two Formula1 chairs with PS3-compatible steering wheels and racing pedals, and provides a thrilling race simulation environment in which Red Bull employees can burn off some steam, if not real rubber.
Red Bull commissioned a bespoke Pioneer Professional DJ desk with two JBL 15-inch active speakers for their in-office, live events area. 4ward-design completed the installation once the components had been supplied.
We are extremely pleased with the success of the Red Bull Cape Town project, as is Louis Opperman, Red Bull’s General Manager. He had this to say about working with 4ward-design:
Moving into iconic V&A Waterfront was a massive project for us with many moving parts.
The team from 4Ward proved themselves from day 1 as they clearly differentiated themselves from the competition through,
Innovative ideas and solutions to our particular needs
Professional behaviour at all times
Most importantly the ability to hit deadlines and stay within budget
We look 4Ward to working with them in future on our Johannesburg office phase 2.
